Updated FRIDAY 16/10/09. 06:30hrs.(wsdt) WEEKEND FORECAST FOR 17th & 18th October. PICK OF THE SPOTS: Margaret River/SW region will be the place to be on Saturday with some great conditions and a clean medium size swell running. The metro area will see it's fair share of swell also and swimmers need to swim between the flags as the warm weather will attract plenty of beach goers, but with a little bit of swell and a warm day rescues will be prominent. SATURDAY Perth & Mandurah Winds: Light E to E/NE in the morning becoming fresh then shifting light variable NW by early afternoon then swinging light to moderate S late afternoon. Waves: Metro beach breaks waist to chest high waves with the odd shoulder high set building thru the morning with head high sets by mid morning. Beach breaks your best option with the small swell reef breaks providing a few rideable waves, because this is the first warm summer like day expect a crowded lineup, waves will be suitable for intermediate to experienced surfers. Tides: 0.36m @ 4:30 AM, 0.46m @ 10:38 AM, 0.41m @ 1:30 PM, 0.64m @ 9:38 PM. Margaret River Winds: Light to moderate E to E/SE winds swinging moderate SW in the afternoon.. Waves: Mainbreak will be producing waves of around the four to six foot mark with eight footers on an incoming tide. Open ocean breaks will be producing some quality waves with even a few sneaking into the protected Bays and Points. Tides: 0.50m @ 3:52 AM, 1.00m @ 9:08 PM. SUNDAY Perth & Mandurah Winds: Light SE winds 10/15 knots, swinging light to moderate SW in the afternoon. Waves: Metro beach breaks waist to chest high with shoulder high sets. The odd head high sneaker occasionally. Small swell reef breaks will be offering the odd one.. Tides: 0.33m @ 5:45 AM, 0.67m @ 9:45 PM. Margaret River Winds: Light SE'ly winds, swinging light to moderate SW in the afternoon. Waves: Mainbreak will still be providing some quality waves with some of the more protected open ocean breaks also providing the same. .
