HIGH SURF WARNING ADVICE ISSUED: TUESDAY 16/05/09.....06.55am Period of commencement THURSDAY 18/05/09 A complex system lies to the SW of the state that will move through the region late Wednesday evening/Thursday day. The system will be accompanied by gale force winds from the NW direction at first then swinging into the W/SW direction by Thursday afternoon. Another system within the system will start to form on Friday with combined sea and swell that should be in excess of 6.5 metres in the Margaret River region with the Perth and Mandurah areas seeing the swell buoys nudge 5.5 metres possibly more. Large swell associated with high morning tides and gale possibly to storm force winds will see moderate to severe beach erosion along the coastline. Swell will increase to very large by the afternoon. Large seas, surf and strong winds will provide unsafe surf conditions for Thursday/Friday on the open ocean breaks. THURSDAY Perth & Mandurah Wind direction: Gale force winds from the NW winds 25/35 knots with squalls to 45/50 knots early morning, swinging W'ly 30/40 knots in the afternoon. Swell direction: W to W/SW. Period: 13 to 14 seconds. Waves: 3 to 4 metres combined sea & swell on the open ocean in the morning reaching 4.5 metres combined sea & swell by 3pm in the afternoon. Head high plus on the open ocean breaks in the morning. Unsafe surfing conditions . Margaret River Winds: Gale force winds from the NW winds 25/35 knots with squalls to 45/5o knots early morning, swinging W'ly 30/40 knots in the afternoon. Swell direction: W/SW. Period: 13 to 14 seconds. Waves: 4.5 metres combined sea & swell on the open ocean reaching 5 metres combined sea & swell by 3 pm. Ten to twelve feet odd thirteen foot foam balls with fifteen foot sets at Mainbreak by the afternoon. Unsafe surfing conditions . FRIDAY Perth & Mandurah Wind direction: Strong SW winds 25/30 increasing to 35/45 knots by midday with stronger squalls, before swinging S 30 to 40 knots in the afternoon. Swell direction: W to W/SW. Period: 14 to 15 seconds. Waves: 3 to 4 metres combined sea & swell on the open ocean in the morning reaching 5 to 6 metres combined sea & swell by the afternoon.
