A significant low should start developing at around 50S 60E
on the 16/08/04 computer modeling at this point in times
suggest it will continue to develop and gain in strength as
it approaches the South West coast.
On the 18/08/04 at this stage it has developed into a severe
looking low at around latitude 45S and longitude 95E. Seas
and swell in excess of 45 feet (12 to 15
metres) on the open ocean are
associated with it along with damaging winds.
Potential for damaging high seas and swell to the South West
corner of the state could be possible if the low continues
on it's due course and intesity.

Strong to gale force winds with high seas and swell are
expected to redevelop later tonight and into tomorrow
morning. A storm warning has been issued by the Bureau of
Meteorology for the lower South West (including Mandurah).
Primary dunal erosion along the
coast line will be prevalent along the lower SW including
Metropolitan beaches with unsafe surfing conditions for the
period.
A succession of strong to very strong fast moving cold
fronts entrenched in a strong to gale force W/WNW flow will
start making their presence felt again by this evening and
should move through over next few days.
Swell and winds will diminish quickly by the weekend with a
high ridging in on Saturday producing offshore winds on a
moderate, but Fading swell.
