05/03/13. An evening with Jim Banks.  An ex professional surfer, Jim quit his top 16 position on the world tour in 1981 to pursue his passion of seeking out the most remote and challenging waves he could find. As this was in the days before the companies backed such ventures, Jim funded his own exploration through shaping boards and writing the occasional travel piece for the magazines. Jim's seeking led him to spending extended periods in Indonesia, the Pacific and Australia's North west desert. In 2010 Jim rekindled his passion for exploration and created the Indo Odyssey, an 8 month journey along the entire coast of Indonesia aboard a traditional Indonesian phinisi boat. During this journey Jim found many amazing waves, many of them never before seen waves and images of these will be one of the highlights of tomorrow's show. This Tuesday night, surfer, shaper and Indo surf pioneer Jim Banks will be presenting a collection of pictures, stories and songs gathered from a lifetime of surfing some of the worlds most remote and dangerous waves.
